The weather is certainly not going to get better here in New Zealand. Last night, the rain was pouring down, and I’m sure we can expect more rainy days in the near future. Days like those can get a bit boring sometimes and you may find yourself sitting inside not quite knowing what to do. So I thought I would write up some tips on things you can occupy yourself with until the sun comes back out. These will mainly be for women, but if there are any guys reading this, at least you can give some tips to your wife/girlfriend if she’s bored.
- Have an at-home spa day
Life can be pretty stressful sometimes which means that we often don’t have time left over for pampering, but sometimes we really need it. So if you can’t go outside, why not draw yourself a hot bath, sit back and relax. Take the time to do a manicure or pedicure. Apply a face mask and treat your hair to a deep-conditioning treatment.
- Have a movie/TV-show marathon
If you love movies and TV-shows like me, then you’ll know that you don’t have enough time to watch a lot of it during the week. So take this opportunity to either catch up on shows you’ve fallen behind on, start a new show, or have a movie marathon. If you want to make it extra cosy, wrap yourself in a blanket, have a hot drink and light some candles.
- Bake something
If you’ve got ingredients lying around, use them to bake something yummy. Not only is it a good way to pass the time, the oven might also heat up your house/flat at the same time which is lovely on a cold rainy day.
- Clean out your closet
I only did this the other day so I can’t use this tip myself, but it’s something that a lot of us don’t do often enough. Get rid of clothes you’ll never use again, hide away clothes that aren’t right for the season, and everything will look a lot tidier.
- Jump onto Pinterest for inspiration
No matter what your interests are, I’m sure you can find inspiration on Pinterest. A rainy day is a perfect day to sit down and plan things you would like to try sometime. It can be cooking, baking, scrap-booking, crafts, drawing, reading, photography.. you name it!
- Write a to-do list
Don’t worry, you don’t have to do the things right now. But take the opportunity to sit down and think about things that need to be done around the house, or goals you’d like to meet. Once you’ve got a list, it’ll be much easier to remember to do them later on.
- Read a book
This one doesn’t really apply to me as I don’t often read, but if you like reading, cuddle up in bed or on the couch with a nice cup of tea and a good book.
- Play boardgames
You don’t have to do everything alone. Invite some friends around to play some boardgames, or play with the people you live with if you don’t live by yourself. You’re never too old for boardgames, and time flies when you get a game going.
These are only a few ideas, and I’m sure there are many more out there. Don’t forget that there are also activities that can be done inside elsewhere, such as bowling, playing pool, going to the gym (yuk), shopping or getting a massage for example. The sky is the limit.
