Yesterday a new person started within our team so we decided to go out for lunch. We went to this place called Burger Liquor. It’s the first time I’ve been there, but I thought I would write a short review in case I have any readers from Wellington, or if anyone’s thinking of visiting Wellington any time soon.My first thought was that it was a really funky place, definitely not fancy in any way, but not shabby either. The table and chairs were not too comfortable, but if you’re only there for a quick lunch, that’s not really a problem.
The selection of burgers is quite small, but definitely sufficient, with the options of beef, chicken, lamb, vegetable and fish. I went with the fish burger, because in my mind that sounded like one of the healthier options (but I’m probably wrong). And I sort of cancelled out any healthiness that gave me when we ordered a bowl of Poutine. First time I’ve tried poutine, but I’m fairly sure it’s quite different from the real deal. It had mushrooms in it, surely that’s not how they do it in Canada!
The food came out really quick, but in saying that, there weren’t many people around when we were there, so I’m not sure what they would be like when they’re busy. The burger was quite small, but perfectly sized for me to be honest. I always struggle to finish my burgers, but this one I was able to chomp down quite well. They are served in a brioche bun, which I loved because I’m a huge fan of sweet breads. I wish all burgers were served in brioche buns now.
The prices were definitely acceptable, although you might feel differently if you expect a large burger for the price. They serve alcohol there too, hence the name Burger Liquor, but since we were there at lunch time I didn’t have a chance to try out their alcohol selection. Might have to go back for that at another time I think.
All in all, I thought it was a pretty sweet place, and I’d definitely go back.
