Trying some new wines

June 27, 2015

I used to drink wine quite often, but unfortunately it seems like I can’t handle it as well these days, haha. I always get the worst hangovers when I drink wine, so I try to drink cider instead as often as I can. But I still enjoy drinking a glass or two every now and again. If I’ve had a rough day at work or is stressed out in some other way, a glass of wine always seems to calm me down!

When I was at the supermarket the other day I decided to buy some wine to have at home. There are so many different ones to choose from here in New Zealand and sometimes I can’t even remember which ones I’ve tried, or whether or not I liked them. But I’m very sure that I haven’t tried either of these two that I bought.

The first one is a Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough called ‘Rapaura’. I’ve never seen it before and it was actually Jeremy that pointed it out. It’s usually close to $20 per bottle, but it was on special and only cost me $12 I believe. I like a good deal so I often can’t say no to things like that! As silly as it may sound, I sometimes also go for the look of the bottle as well. I like pretty ones, haha.

The second bottle is a Pinot Noir from Marlborough called ‘Lake Chalice – The Nest’. It was also on special. I’ve only just started to drink red wine, because I didn’t use to like the taste of it. I’ve so far stuck to drinking Pinot Noir, but I’m open to trying other reds as well. I’m not going to lie, this one I mainly bought because I liked the look of the bottle.

Everyone says that you should buy Pinot Noir that is made in Central Otago, and sure, that might be true. But unfortunately they are much more expensive, and from experience, I like the cheaper ones just as much as I like the expensive. I think some people only buy the expensive ones because they are ‘supposed’ to taste better, and don’t even bother trying the cheap ones.

So I’ll be trying these at some point. I haven’t opened either of them yet, and I’m not quite sure when I will. It will likely be for an evening glass sometime next week! 🙂

What’s your favourite type of wine?

Sophie
