I haven’t actually really introduced myself yet, which I probably should have started out with. I was just so excited about blogging that I completely forgot that step.
Who am I?
My name is Sophie. I grew up in a small town called Nykoping in Sweden. I lived there until I was 20 years old in 2008. In 2006, I met my now boyfriend of almost 8 years on the internet. We were both members of a music community called Last.fm. We were super-matches, so started messaging each other about music.
We begun chatting away on MSN and it was pretty much the highlight of my day. After talking to each other for probably about a year, me being in Sweden and he in New Zealand, he let me know he was considering coming to Stockholm for a uni exchange. I was really excited to finally meet him, which I did in January 2008.
We clicked immediately, and we’ve been together ever since. At the end of 2008, he had to leave to go back to New Zealand. This put me in a really difficult position. I knew I was in love with him, and did not want to be apart, so after a lot of thinking and crying (I’m a very emotional person, haha), I decided to go with him. The initial plan was to move to New Zealand for six months, and then go back to Sweden. But after those six months I wasn’t only in love with him, I had also fallen in love with the country.
Long story short, I still live in New Zealand, hence my blog name ‘The Swedish Kiwi’. My goal is to move back to Sweden within the next few years.
Why do I blog?
I’ve always loved writing. I’m not the greatest at it, but it excites me. I’ve tried writing in a diary many times, but to be honest, it’s too slow! I much prefer writing online as I’m a pretty fast typer. And I don’t mind making it public as I love the thought of meeting others like me, and interacting with people who enjoy reading what I write makes me super happy. 🙂
Unlike a lot of other bloggers, I don’t really have a theme for my blog. I write about whatever comes to mind and what I feel is interesting at the time. I use it as a bit of an online diary (but without the super private details). I will be writing about my experiences moving overseas, my travels around New Zealand, my daily life here in Wellington, random things that interest me, my love of cooking and baking, and the occasional post about nail polish and other beauty products.
I would love to make as many online friends as possible, and I’m always happy to answer any questions you might have, so let me know if there is anything you’d like to know about me that I didn’t cover in this post.
Thanks for reading! 🙂
