I once went to Phuket!

August 13, 2015

Yesterday, I was reading a blog post by MyTravelLust where she talked about Phuket. It reminded me of my experience there a few years ago. Many people I know always talked about Phuket like it is some sort of paradise island. I’m going to have to politely disagree.

I mean, I enjoyed my time there, but it was not one of the best places I’ve been to, and not what I picture a paradise island to be like. I might be a bit picky when it comes to travel destinations, but I actually thought Phuket was quite dirty and underwhelming. Luckily, we were staying at a really nice hotel!

Here are a few of our photos from the trip. 🙂

My favourite part of our trip was when we took a boat trip to Phi Phi Island. That place is so beautiful. It looks exactly like the pictures you get when you Google it. But Phuket itself, hmm.. not so much.

Here are the things I liked and disliked about Phuket:

Liked:

  • The people
  • The super-cheap massages
  • Cheap manicures
  • The heat
  • Shopping (it’s cheap!)
  • Our hotel
  • Phi Phi Island
  • The turquoise/ blue water

Disliked:

  • The humidity
  • That it was quite dirty
  • People trying to sell you tickets to ping pong shows
  • The fact that you can’t drink the tap water
  • The amount of tourists

I probably wouldn’t go back to be completely honest, but if you don’t dislike the things I mentioned above, i definitely recommend that you go!

Have you been to Phuket? If so, did you like it?

Tourists and humidity combined can easily demotivate me from visiting a place but I guess is doable 🙂
Thank you for sharing this, never been to Thailand but I’m considering it.

The last photo shows the street looks a bit old as you mentioned. Glad your trip was fun though, can’t go wrong with beaches. That name… Is it near Nantucket? OK, bad joke!

Haha, yeah that photo is from the most popular tourist destination in Phuket – Patong Beach. 🙂

Phuket is a place I hadn’t really thought of much before in regard to places I want to travel to. Also I nominated you for the Premio Dardos award.https://continuingwithme.wordpress.com/2015/08/14/premio-dardos-award/
