My favourite foods

Pizza

I love food. Like, really love it. As a kid, I didn’t eat much at all and was very underweight for a long time. Now that I think back on those days, I don’t know how I could possibly think food wasn’t important. I just didn’t enjoy it back then, and it baffles me. Eating was more of a chore than something enjoyable.

That couldn’t be further from the truth today. I was lucky enough as a teenager to have really good metabolism, which meant that I could eat pretty much anything I wanted and not gain weight. It made people hate me, but at the same time, it meant that although you couldn’t see it on the outside, I was really unhealthy on the inside, which isn’t any better!

Today I do have to think about what I eat to make sure I stay healthy(ish). I also struggle with the infamous muffin top – so frustrating. Summer’s coming soon so I better start exercising to get in a bit better shape before then!

I digress, this post is about my favourite foods, so here’s the list (in no particular order):


Cheese

I absolutely love cheese. All kinds (although I struggle with blue cheese). I often just eat cheese as a snack, which isn’t healthy at all, but it’s so good! If I had to pick a favourite cheese, it would probably be Gouda. Ooh, but Halloumi would probably be a close second. Back home in Sweden there is always a cheese bar (delicatessen) in the supermarkets, where you’re allowed to try the cheese before buying. I miss that a lot.

Italian style pizza

I’m not a huge fan of deep-dish pizzas or pizzas from Dominos or Pizza Hut. They’re just not pizza to me. But give me a woodfire italian style pizza and I will devour that thing in no time. Oh, just thinking about it makes me hungry right now.

Chocolate

This one is a given, isn’t it? (Although I’m not sure if it’s counted as food?) But I mean, who doesn’t like chocolate! I don’t eat it often any more because I know how bad it is for you, but when I do eat it, I fully enjoy it. Mmm.. chocolate. Iced chocolates are so good too. With ice cream, and chocolate sauce, and marshmallows, and cream… OK, I’ll stop now.

Ravioli

I’ve always had a soft spot for ravioli, it’s so yum. I like all kinds of ravioli too, meat or vegetarian doesn’t matter. One of my absolute favourites is pumpkin ravioli in a burnt butter sauce. If you haven’t tried it, you have to give it a go!

dumplings

I love going out for Yum Char, but I also love Jeremy’s home-made dumplings – they are delicious! Before I moved to New Zealand I hadn’t really tried dumplings before because we don’t have a lot of Asian food in Sweden (and the Asian food that does exist there isn’t very Asian I’ve discovered after travelling in Asia, haha). I could have a whole meal made up of dumplings.

Vegetables

This is not very specific, I know, but I do love vegetables. Most of them actually. I much prefer vegetables over fruit. At the same time, I don’t really enjoy eating salads. I think it’s because I prefer my vegetables to be cooked. So a side of broccoli, asparagus, bok choy, cauliflower, carrots or corn is great!


Those are a few of my favourite foods. I’m craving all of them now! Why do most of them have to be so unhealthy? It’s not fair.

    I always had a good metabolism. I’m 30 and yes people hate me. But I agree with the unhealthy inside thing. Since I never had to try I ate pizza and cupcakes and ice cream and never went to the gym. But I’ve had to make an effort to eat veggies this year and not eat breads and pastas and pizza until night because they make me chronically fatigued. Also I drink fruit smoothies to replace unhealthy sugars. 30 is a lot different that younger years. You feel your guilt on the inside, literally. (As I’m seriously eating ice cream right now lol!)

      Haha I love how you were eating ice cream as you wrote that, that’s awesome. 🙂 I’m still not overweight, but it’s so frustrating because all fat seems to show up in the tummy area, and creates that annoying muffin top. It’s super hard to get rid of too without losing weight in other areas (which I don’t want). Just have to try to build up muscle to replace the weight I’m losing in fat.

        I feel you. What’s super annoying is no matter how skinny you are you can have a ton of cellulite. Guilty here. And it never comes off. You literally just reshape it into a more appealing shape in exercise but if you stop it’s hello cottage cheese. I blame the pizza place i worked at and ate at for a year when i was 15.

    Cake! I love all kinds of cakes. I had to admit that 😀 but I do them on my own because if you love cakes then you have to switch to the healthy side to not kill yourself with calories 😀

      Haha, I like cakes, but I can’t eat a lot of them because I get over the craving after a few bites. With these other foods I mentioned, I often keep eating way after I’m full! Haha.

    Cheese is definitely up there with my faves. Steak and steak tartare–the tartare should give you a great indication of how I love my steak to be served! I love a great slice of brioche (that I make), sieche…there’s really not a lot I don’t like. My least favorite food is pork. I’m not much of a pork lover! Pasta, I love though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    CHEESE & chocolate 🙂 There’s this dish in Canada called “poutine”, which basically consist of fries, gravy sauce and cheese curds. It’s to die for!

    Ahhh.. I am guilty of nibbling on cheese as well.. My metabolism sucks, I have always been on the heavier side and no matter what I do I can’t seem to go below a certain weight. It’s annoying. But oh well. I have learnt to live with it now.
    And I love vegetables. Gimme a leafy salad anyday and I would be happy.

    Aside from those, I absolutely love stir fried noodles. Add vegetables with them, and *drools*.

    I like cheese,and Chinese dumplings.. But I also like healthy and unhealthy foods like Green Olives,bacon,quiche,pork with cracklings (chicharrón), haagen daas,Greengage plums,okra,duck,avocados, chicken gizzard.. And the list continues..
