I always judge wine by the cover!

September 13, 2015

A couple of weeks ago I was at the supermarket when I spotted the World of Wearable Art, limited design bottles of Brancott Estate wines. I was immediately sold (particularly because they were on special, haha).

It’s a thing I seem to do – buy wine based on what the bottle looks like. I probably shouldn’t, because you’d probably prefer them to spend more money on the actual wine rather than the design, but I just can’t help myself, I like pretty things.

At the checkout, the guy behind the counter commented on how weird he thought they looked. He said they reminded him of vodka bottles more than wine. I guess I can see where he was coming from, wine bottles are usually see-through. I bought one bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and one bottle of Pinot Noir.

I have to say, I wasn’t much of a fan of the Sauvignon Blanc, which is strange because I’ve had Brancott Estate’s Sauvignon Blanc before, and I remember liking it. I’m not sure if they actually change the wine for the limited edition bottles? I wouldn’t think so, but otherwise I guess I’ve just changed my mind since I drunk it last! It had sort of a bitter taste which I don’t like. I prefer my Sauvignon Blanc to be fruity and on the sour side.

When it comes to the Pinot Noir, it was better than the Sauvignon Blanc, but it’s still not a favourite. It felt a bit watery to me. There was a bit of bitterness there, but that’s fine with reds. I just would have preferred the taste to be a bit bolder I suppose.

So I’ll probably buy other wines before I buy these again, but not too bad for the price I paid for them.

Do you drink wine? If so, do you prefer reds or whites? ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes I do. It depends a little on the day. Today is nice and warm and spring’s in the air. I’d go for a Sauvignon Blanc tonight. And it also depends on the food.

I’m not very good with matching wine to food, so I just go with whatever, haha.

Use them as a vase or depending on the size of the bottle you can make a lamp.

Bottles (and a reasonable price tag!) make wine attractive to me too. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons I tend to go for new world wines. I’m sorry to hear the Sauvignon Blanc was not fruity enough, I’ve had the Brancott Estates SB before and it was nice enough. I wonder if they had a bad batch so they decided to design a swanky bottle to get rid of it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha, that could very well be it, because I remember liking their SB before too! So it’s a bit strange that this one wasn’t very nice.

I’m guilty of buying because of the bottle as well……and price….I can’t claim to be a wine connoisseur, I go for cheap…lol. I don’t have a preference really,,whatever I have on hand works!

Sounds like me pretty much. I think the most expensive bottle I’ve bought was around NZD$18 haha.

I agree. Unless they’re going to crack one open and let you take a swig, how else can you judge? ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s why I go to the food show, because you get to taste the wine before buying there, it’s pretty great! Haha.

Yay! The grocery store in Texas will have wine vendors come out on weekends too. It’s a good idea + attractive wine labels lol

I love wine and I too am a culprit of buying wine based on how pretty the bottle design is ๐Ÿ˜› I prefer red but I like to have white in the house for certain meals. Thankfully my dad’s wife has a nose for wine (she used to work in the wine business in Canada for years) so when she finds a really good wine that I can get at BevMo for cheap she lets me know and I scoop up a few bottles when they have their 5 cent wine sale.

Oh cool, I wish I knew someone who could let me know what wines to go with! But I just have to try my way through them instead!

I like white, but red with most meals. I am also guilty of buying based on the bottle. Just the other week I purchased a bottle of white just because there was a cute horse on the bottle. It may be terrible but it’s not all about the taste right? haha ๐Ÿ™‚

That definitely sounds like me. I usually go with bottles that have pretty flowers on them, or just have a cool design! ๐Ÿ™‚
