Wanaka – Day 1 (Part 2)

October 10, 2015

Jeremy and I finally decided where to go for dinner. We chose ‘Lake bar’, which is more of a pub than a bar in my opinion. Before we went there, we stopped to take some photos by the lake because the sun was about to go down. Jeremy also had a bit of a slide in the playground!

When we got to the pub, it was absolutely packed! I believe it was happy hour. Most other restaurants, pubs and bars were pretty quiet, but i guess happy hour always pulls people in!

The food wasn’t cheap, but then again, we’re in Wanaka – a very popular tourist destination. Of course they’re going to put the prices up. Jeremy ordered lamb shanks, and I went for pork belly. I complemented my meal with a glass of Pinot Noir. You sort of have to drink some red wine while you’re down here seeing as Central Otago is where all the good reds are from in New Zealand. And the glass I ordered certainly didn’t disappoint.

After dinner, we went next door to ‘Gin & Raspberry Boutique Bar’. I had looked that place up before we went to Wanaka, and it had great reviews so I wanted to check it out. It’s quite hidden away, but once you get in you’re met with really stylish decor and a pretty cool atmosphere. Although, we went there really early so there was pretty much no one around!

I ordered the Gin & Raspberry cocktail of course. It was pretty tasty, but I’m not a huge fan of gin I’ve realised. It was good enough for me to finish without struggling though. Once I had almost finished it, Jeremy suggested that we play some pool, seeing as they had a couple of pool tables there. I thought that was a great idea, so we played three games. Jeremy won one game, and I won two (although I only won two because Jeremy sunk the white ball when there was only the black ball and the white ball left. So as he put it himself, I won because he failed, haha).

So that was our first day in Wanaka! I had a great time and I hope the remaining days here will be just as great. In my next post you’ll hear about the car tour we did with Funny French Cars. 🙂
