This weekend Jeremy and I threw our engagement party. It was nothing massive, just a small party with our friends celebrating the engagement. I know a lot of people throw pretty big engagement parties, but Jeremy and I aren’t really those types of people, so a small shindig is just as great to us.
Saturday started off quite early. We begun the day by cleaning the house. It wasn’t that messy, but you don’t want to have people over without making sure it looks nice and tidy. After some cleaning, we planted our newly bought plants for the outdoor area and hung them on the wall. It made it look so much better out there. It’s amazing what a few flowers can do.
Once we were finished there, I headed into town to pick up Jeremy’s dry-cleaning, to buy some make-up, and some stuff we needed for the party (cups, plates and similar). By the time I got home, I think it was around 2pm. I thought 4 hours would be plenty of time to make the food, shower and get ready. Boy, was I wrong!
The food took much longer to make than I had expected. I finished making it when there was only half an hour left till people would start arriving. So I had to have a super quick shower, and put my make-up on faster than ever. A few friends arrived at 6 when the event started. So I had to apologise for them for not being ready quite in time.
Once I was ready, people started pouring in, and the conversation was flowing. I had a really great night, and I tried my best to make the rounds to talk to everyone, but it wasn’t easy! Jeremy was busy cooking some dumplings and later on some satay. The food seemed to be appreciated by most people, which was great. I was a bit nervous i had spent all that time and no one would eat it.
Most people left at around 10pm, but a few friends arrived late. We ended up outdoors under our new heater. It was quite nice actually. We popped a couple of bottles of champagne, and unfortunately I drunk mine way too fast. I ended up not feeling so well after a while so had to bail on my own party and head to bed – what a disappointing host! Haha.
Let’s not talk about the day after! Long story short, I wasn’t feeling well at all. I really need to start controlling my drinking a bit more. I can feel a New Year’s resolution coming!
All in all though, it was a great party and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that came! We really appreciated it, and I hope everyone had a good time. Believe it or not, we didn’t really take any photos! I guess we were too busy socialising!
