Dinner & drinks at Chow and Dragonfly

December 16, 2015

Yesterday I met up with two of my lovely friends, Kitty and Rachel. We decided it was time for some dinner and drinks as we haven’t caught up in a while.

We went to Chow to start with, to have dinner and some cocktails. In saying that though, I didn’t have a cocktail. I haven’t been drinking much lately, so I settled for a cider instead. Kitty and Rachel had some sort of watermelon and pepper daiquiri. Interesting combination!

The food was OK, but I specifically asked if the curry I ordered was spicy and the waitress said ‘No, it’s not spicy at all’. Trusting her judgement of what’s spicy and what’s not, I ordered the curry. Turns out it was spicy. Yes, I’m sensitive to spice and probably find most things spicier than others, but this curry was the kind of spicy that makes your lips burn. So I’m not sure if she’s had it before to be honest!

I couldn’t finish the curry, but luckily we ordered three plates of dumplings to share as well. They were pretty yum. When the waitress brought out my plate of dumplings, she said ‘there is still a piece coming’. I wasn’t sure what she meant, but thought that maybe there was a condiment that was missing or something.

Turns out there was a dumpling missing, which came out on a separate plate. Very strange. I would have thought they would have just waited to serve the plate until all the dumplings were cooked..

Once we were finished there, we wanted to head to The Library for 2 for 1 desserts. When we arrived there it turned out they were closed for a private function. Oh well.. So we then headed over to Dragonfly instead to have some more drinks.

Kitty and Rachel continued with their cocktails while I ordered another cider. I had a very interesting conversation with the bartender that went a bit like this:

“What drink would you like?”

“Do you have any cider?”

“Yes, we have ….” (Didn’t hear the rest of the sentence because it was loud)

“What brand of cider is it sorry?”

I again couldn’t hear what he said, but thought he said something about pear or apple.

“Can I just have the pear one?”

“Who said anything about pear?”

“I thought you did?”

“No I didn’t.”

“Oh OK, so what were the flavours then?”

“Apple or Apple & Ginger”

“Can I just have the apple one please?”

“Apple or Apple & Ginger?”

Then he walked off after taking the order from Kitty and Rachel. The brand of cider that came out was called ‘Zeffer’. No wonder I had no idea what he was saying. Never heard of that brand before. Apparently it is ‘premium’. Not sure about that.

It was a nice evening! I usually drink wine when we go out for dinners like these, but I’ve decided lately that wine isn’t really working out for me. It makes me feel too sick, and it makes me too drunk too fast. So I think I’ll stick to cider for now.

I finished the night off with some ice cream at home seeing as I was still hungry due to not being able to finish my curry!

I’m not sure where you’re from, but in New Zealand there is a brand called ‘Isaac’s’. That is currently my favourite 🙂
