Nice to see you, 2016!

January 1, 2016

It’s a new year, and it’s going to be a big one. Jeremy and I have got quite a lot planned for this year, and I’m super excited but nervous at the same time. We’re finally going to take a huge step and move to Sweden.

It’s insane to think about the fact that I haven’t lived in Sweden since 2008. After all, it’s my home country. It’s where I grew up and I’ll always consider it my home. But I still feel like an outsider now. I don’t quite know how things work over there. I’m going to have to find a new job, somewhere to live and I’ll have to figure out a whole bunch of stuff in a short time.

I’ve got all of my family over there, so it shouldn’t be too bad. I’m so excited to finally get to spend more time with them.

Enough about those plans for now. The first day of 2016 has been absolutely stunning here in Wellington. It was scary hot today. Like, the hottest it’s been in Wellington in a long, long time. It was nice, but even for me who are always cold, it got a bit much.

Although it was really hot, it was also quite hazy. I tried to take some photos, but none of them really turned out that great because of the weird lighting. We started the day off by getting some KFC which we ate by the beach in Lyall Bay. Then we drove around the bay. There were so many people out by the beach. Understandable when it’s 27 degrees outside!

We continued to drive around to Oriental Bay where we bought some ice cream. I’ve never seen ice cream melt so quickly. They were even struggling inside the store to keep the ice cream from melting. For some reason Kafé Eis was closed. Bad move on a day like that, I bet they lost out on a lot of money.

Then we drove up on Mount Victoria, mainly because I thought it might be a bit cooler up there with some wind. I was wrong.

It was still super hot and the wind was nowhere to be found. So I made the call to head back home because I was feeling quite exhausted and light-headed from the heat.

And here we are! Certainly not a bad start to the year. Hopefully we’ll have a good summer. The way things look right now, we might be moving to Sweden end of the year. That would mean that this is our last summer until June 2017!

Happy new year, everyone!
