The world is beautiful from above

June 4, 2016

I have to say, one of my favourite parts of flying is seeing the world from above. Everything looking really small and so pretty. I always get the window seat when we go travelling. If it was up to Jeremy, he would prefer the aisle seat because he doesn’t like bothering people when he needs to get up to stretch his legs. I don’t mind bothering people every now and again if it means that I get the best view.

I’m terrified of flying, but somehow looking out the window makes me feel better. That’s kind of strange if you think about it, because you’d think that you’d then realise how high up you are and how frightening it is, but for some reason it has the opposite effect for me. Even if it’s a cloudy day and you can’t really see much out the windows, it still is very calming for me. The clouds look so fluffy and soft.

I’ve been going through my photos to try to find photos taken from planes, but they’re surprisingly hard to find. I suppose that could be because Jeremy and I haven’t really travelled much in the last three years. Sure, we’ve done some domestic trips in New Zealand, but because we’ve done those trips so many times before, I guess I’m not taking as many photos.

I really need to start taking more. Now that you’re allowed to use cameras and even phones when you’re taking off, it makes it a lot easier.

I guess sometimes I don’t take photos because I know I take too many photos and I’ll run out of space on my phone or computer. I don’t know how they managed to be happy with the 20 something photos you could take back in the day when you had to stick film into your camera. These days I can take 20 photos of the same scenery to get a really good one.

So, note to self: take more photos when on a plane.

Beautiful photos, Sophie. I am scared to death of flying. So, I usually have to sit in the aisle.

Is it so that you don’t have to see what’s happening outside? 🙂 For me that seems to help rather than not knowing, but I know it’s more common not to want to look!

Those photos are so nice! I haven’t been on a plane in the longest time! Thank you for the reminder that I need to get on a plane ASAP.
