A beautiful walk in Eastbourne, New Zealand

July 4, 2016

When Jeremy and I woke up on Saturday, we both felt like going out for lunch rather than making something at home. It’s situations like those the Entertainment Book comes in handy. We felt like going for a bit of a drive and we knew there was a voucher in there for Chocolate Dayz Cafe in Days Bay, a place we’ve been to a few times now and love.

So we jumped into the car and headed out that way. We basically ordered the same thing we always do. But why go for something different when you know what you usually have is spectacular?

The place really doesn’t look like anything special from the outside. The first time we went there I was almost ready to turn around, because it looks really worn down. I guess you could call it rustic. But as usual, the meal didn’t disappoint.

After lunch we felt we had to take advantage of the fact that it was super sunny outside and quite warm. It certainly didn’t feel like winter! So we kept on driving from Days Bay out to Eastbourne. We decided to go for a bit of a coastal walk.

Unfortunately I didn’t really have the right shoes on for that kind of walk, but I went ahead anyway. It was a bit difficult walking on rocks with a bit of a heel, but I powered through it. And it was worth it, it was absolutely beautiful out there. You could even see the South Island from there! And there were snow on the mountains. Magic.

We walked about 2,5 kilometres and back I believe. If we would have kept walking for another 4 or so kilometres we would have seen the lighthouse. I’m really keen to go all the way out there sometime. You’re able to rent bikes where the track starts, so I think Jeremy and I will definitely make sure we do that before we leave for Sweden.

I always thought the track was a bit up and down, but as far as we went, there were no hills at all. We found a geocache out there too. Whenever we go for walks these days we always check if there are any geocaches nearby. You might as well, so that there is another purpose for the walk, rather than just walking.

What did you get up to this weekend?
