I’ve eaten quite a few burgers in the last few weeks, all thanks to the Burger Wellington event, but I wanted to try one of the cocktails as well. I don’t often drink cocktails, I’m more of a wine or cider person, but because they were put on just for the event, I felt I had to try at least one.
So I invited Kitty out for a catch up. We decided on Boulcott Street Bistro for the cocktail, and while we were there, we decided to have the burger as well. The cocktail was alright. It wasn’t really what I expected it to be, and to be honest, I didn’t think it was that much better than regular champagne. The freeze dried raspberries looked nice, but tasted pretty awful. Probably because they soaked up all the alcohol from the champagne.
It did come with a pretty yum appetiser though, so that sort of made up for it a bit.
The burger was quite tasty, but I was actually expecting more from a place like Boulcott Street Bistro. In all honesty, I’ve had plenty of better burgers, even outside the Burger Wellington event.
I have to say though, they did pretty well when it comes to making it as Kiwi as possible. It was pretty much a slightly fancier version of any Kiwi burger I’ve had before. For those of you who aren’t familiar with New Zealand, when I say Kiwi, I’m not referring to the fruit or the flightless bird. New Zealander’s call themselves Kiwis. Hence my blog name – The Swedish Kiwi.
It was a bit pricier than most places that took part of the event, but that was expected so I didn’t really mind. The staff there are very nice and the atmosphere is great, so it’s worth paying a bit more rather than having a burger in a pub.
Speaking of pubs, after dinner, Kitty and I headed off to The Green Man for a little bit of wine before we called it a night. We paid a bit extra for the extra large pours.
It was a great night, and it’s always lovely catching up with Kitty. I would give the cocktail 6/10 and the burger 7/10. It was definitely better than some of the others I have tried. Unfortunately I couldn’t finish it, but I think that was mostly because I wasn’t too hungry. We went straight after work so it was a bit early for dinner. But if you want a table there, you have to be early. It is a very popular place!
