So it was my birthday on Wednesday, and I hadn’t planned on doing anything special because I had a dinner planned for the Friday, but my fiance surprised me with lots of things that day anyway, which made the day very special.
Firstly, he let me know in the morning that we were going to go out for dinner, and suggested I didn’t eat too much for lunch. He had booked a table at my favourite restaurant in Wellington – Ortega Fish Shack. Such a great place. It really gave me something to look forward to during my day at work.
Halfway through the morning, he messaged me asking where I was going for lunch and said he wanted to come and have lunch with me. He works quite far away from where I am, so that meant a lot to me. When he arrived at lunch time, he had these gorgeous flowers with him.
I had felt a little bit down about the fact I was working on my birthday, but those flowers really helped put a smile on my face again. The rest of the afternoon went by pretty quickly and before I knew it, we were at Ortega Fish Shack having a wonderful dinner.
His surprises didn’t stop there though. After the starter, he whipped out two gifts from his pocket. I had told him previously not to buy me anything, but that’s just not his way!
The first present was a memory card for my Macbook. I’ve been complaining quite a bit lately that I’ve run out of space on both my laptop and my phone and that I’m soon not going to be able to take any photos. So Jeremy listened and bought me this amazing gift. It has 128gb extra space on it, which is so useful! Especially because I take a lot of photos for my blog that I need to store somewhere.
The second gift was a surprise for sure. It was two tickets to WOW (World of Wearable Arts). I’ve never mentioned that I wanted to go, and Jeremy said he took a chance, because he wasn’t sure if it was my kind of thing. It was a great surprise because I do definitely want to go.
I haven’t bought tickets in the past because I just didn’t think he’d want to come with me, and I also thought they were too expensive. Turns out I’ll get the chance to go before leaving New Zealand after all – yay!
The dinner was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take photos of the starters because we didn’t realise the memory card wasn’t in the camera. Jeremy ran to the car to get it before the mains though, so I did manage to snap a couple of photos of those.
I had really prepared to have dessert, because I know their desserts are amazing, but I was actually really full after the starter and the main. The meals aren’t even large, but for some reason they really filled me up.
We were just about to get up and leave when the waitress came over with a little birthday treat. They were some sort of chocolate fudge balls, and they were absolutely divine.
After dinner we drove back home and had a relaxing evening just watching TV. Perfect. It was a really great birthday for sure.
I’m stoked that I’ll be celebrating my next birthday in Sweden so that my family can be there as well!
