We took off from Sydney late last evening and have now arrived in Tokyo after a really smooth and relaxing flight. The Qantas lounge in Sydney was pretty good. Jeremy wasn’t super impressed by the food, but I thought it was OK. I didn’t eat much anyway, because we had a giant Yum Cha lunch in Sydney with Jeremy’s brother, Jordan & Clara. But I did indulge in a glass of bubbles.
We were on the upper deck of the plane, which was a small section for business class only. We were immediately offered a drink. This time I thought champagne was appropriate, so I went ahead and grabbed a glass, while Jeremy stuck with orange juice. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to finish the glass before taking off, so half of it was wasted. Oh well.
The take-off was super smooth. I guess that’s what you get with larger planes. A lot of people went straight to sleep, which is understandable seeing as the flight was really late. But Jeremy and I love food too much to skip the meal, so we stayed awake to eat. Unfortunately they ran out of the meal I wanted, so I had to settle for a different meal, which turned out to be quite spicy, so I only ate about a third of it. At that point I was super tired, so I decided to go to sleep.
We were given a pyjamas to sleep in, which was awesome. Mine was way too big for me, but at the same time, that was quite cosy! Jeremy thought I looked hilarious, and wasn’t intending on wearing his, but I talked him into it so we could be pyjama buddies.
The best thing about Business Class is that you’re able to lie down flat. For people like me, who really can’t sleep sitting up, and get travel sickness, that’s absolutely perfect. I managed to get at least 4-5 hours sleep I think. I woke up a few times during the night, but in general, it was a pretty relaxing experience. I didn’t end up watching any movies or anything, but I’m glad I got some rest.
We’re now at Tokyo Haneda airport, sitting in the JAL Sakura Lounge. I’ve had a bit of Miso soup, and Asian salad and a croissant, and that will probably keep me going until the next flight. We have quite a few hours to spend here before we head off to London. We might go for a walk around the airport to see if we want to pick up any souvenirs, but other than that, we’ll just relax in the lounge.
I think I’m going to try to stay awake on the next flight. Not sure how that will go, seeing as the flight is something like 12 hours long. But I’d like to get most of my sleep at the hotel in London before we head off to Sweden the next morning. We’ll see what happens I suppose. How many movies can you watch on a plane before you get bored?
