The shortest and darkest day of the year

December 21, 2016

Today is officially the shortest day of the year, and we’ll soon start to get more and more daylight. I honestly can’t wait. It is super cosy to have dark days around Christmas, don’t get me wrong, but it makes you incredibly tired all the time.

I believe I’m completely over the jetlag now, which I should be seeing as it’s been almost two weeks! But it took me a while to realise I was tired because of the darkness rather than the time difference.

It’s just before 11AM right now and it’s pretty grey outside. There hasn’t been much sun at all the last couple of days, it’s been overcast pretty much every day. No snow. Rumour has it we might get a little bit of snow on Christmas Eve, but it’s very hit and miss, so I doubt there will be any.

Today we’ll be visiting a couple of my friends. It’s going to be good to catch up with them after not seeing them for over 3 years. The last few days we haven’t done too much, just relaxing, some fika and lots of food shopping for Christmas dinner. Tomorrow we’ll probably head out for some bowling, but otherwise we don’t have much else planned before Christmas.
